Reflections 2019 (Into the Unknown)

Reflections 2019 (Into the Unknown)

One of the biggest accomplishment in 2019 was that I became a Open Water Diver!

This is almost a full circle.

In 2012, I passed my boating license PPCDL to drive powered pleasure craft in Singapore. And I realized I loved many things about the sea. The only regret was I couldn't swim and I wouldn't want to get into the water.

So in 2013, and then from 2015, I picked up swimming. And then this week, I challenged comfort zone by taking diving.

It's a huge hurdle for me because I developed some kind of water phobia since JC days. Had mandatory swimming lessons then and I think I almost drowned and didn't want that feeling ever since.

Not a good swimmer. Hence, the buoyancy and water threading could be improved. The pool sessions were quite disastrous for me and I was worried if I could even survive this trip. The anxiety stayed with me all through day 1 at the sea, but i persevered and I passed!!

Saw sea turtles, morey eel, stingray, cuttle fish. And wouldn't have been able to get far without the help of my buddy , Jasmin Chu!

It was a sudden decision to go diving and I'm glad she came along.

This week has been very eventful for me.
Mon: theory test
Tue and Thur: practical pool session
Fri night to Sun: diving in Tioman!

This is one huge fulfilment I made in 2019. In a strange sense, I am completing the goals I have set for myself this year. Below is a picture of my vision board under the category of ‘Leisure’.
