Publishing a Website: How did I do it?

Publishing a Website: How did I do it?

It has been one of my biggest dreams to properly set up my website; and I am glad that it is finally going in a direction I had envisioned it to be since more than 3 years ago. In my defense, I have been very busy this year, in terms of work, life and everything in-between.

I was talking to a colleague just a few days ago, and she was saying how she felt 2018 whiz past and before long, we are already expecting 2019. I looked back in my year in that short instance; in retrospect, it felt like the year went on fast for me, but in the midst of busy-ness, I also grasp the time to do the things I had placed on my resolutions 2018. In my heart, I felt that I would not have spent that time in any other way.

There was one event in February 2018, that had a big impact in my life. After attending Tony Robbin's ' Unleash the Power Within, I made a small shift in my mindset to focus on the 'Art of Fulfilment'. And in October this year, after reading a Letter of Commendation from Marcus, I decided to take some of the most valuable lessons I learned and share it with all the people around me. Instead of just sharing with my good friends in small cosy groups, I opened wellness workshops for my fellow colleagues, titled 'Living a Life by Design' series. Tony Robbins talked about total mastery- mind, body, relationships, finances, time, but I took out the most impactful ones to pass it on to my colleagues, my bosses and also my friends. (one of the photos in Testimonials)

That led me thinking deeper into how else I could extend my services to people around me. I spend a lot of free time, reading, learning and generally contemplating about a multitude of subjects and topics, revolving around Mathematics, Statistics, Programming, Philosophy, Psychology and the like. What if I could find a way to share my thoughts and my findings with a wider audience?

I wrote a good blog in 2007 to 2011, which received fairly wide readership. But I stopped because of the lack of time. Since 2015, I have been thinking about creating a website like the one you see now, and then adding a web-blog onto it with many other useful features. I had a lot of roadblock and frustration when I started out in 2015, which seemed ridiculously silly on hindsight. The simplest task of linking my domain name and my web-host, brought the project at a complete standstill for months. Then when I linked up my domain name to Wordpress for the very first time in 2015, I remembered my website crashed many times, thanks to hackers. I did not know how to secure it. Afterwards, there were problems with integrating different apps, and then it got so bad that I decided to learn front end programming in 2017 just to take back matters into my own hands. Progress was just slow, and my website went through multiple cosmetic overhauls. Thankfully, I persevered through.

On Christmas Eve 2018, I spent 3 hours working on bringing this to life. Today, what this looks like is a result of constantly researching for solutions the past 3 years.

Moral of the story: Nothing ventured, nothing gained. It took a lot of time for me to learn something that is completely outside of my original competencies, but I guess if I stayed the course, I might eventually find a way.
